About Chris St Pourçain
I clearly remember how confusing it was as a new lecturer trying to understand the research grant funding process. Writing research grant applications seemed to be more a process of trial and error than understanding what funders were looking for and what made an application competitive.
Later in my career, I spent 10 years managing the research grant application and assessment process for the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) – the largest funder of non-medical bioscience in the UK.
I read hundreds of grant applications and saw hundreds more assessed in hundreds of hours of research funding committees. It was clear that my experience as a research grant applicant was shared by many other researchers.
These experiences are what motivate me to help researchers understand the research grant funding process and to write competitive research grant applications.
